Jinnim is a flirtatious and chatty dragon, often hoarding relationships instead of treasure or anything material. Melancholy reigns supreme, but Jinnim has a cheery disposition and swallows his grief. He was cursed millennia ago to live forever, and at first it seemed like a blessing, but soon enough everyone he knew was dead (including other dragons). He's positively ancient, having seen the rise of humans and the fall of many wars. Jinnim rarely involves himself in such things, preferring instead to find the highest quality people and enveloping himself in their presence. He has a special fondness for children, as they're powerful creative powerhouses and rarely censor what's on their mind.

Early Life

Before humans walked the planet, there was magic and mythical creatures. They shared the land evenly, though territorial disputes were not uncommon. Dragons were one of the dominant creatures, along with fae and minor deities. The planet oozed magic, and there wasn't a sentient race that was mundane. Harmony reigned over all the major continents and everyone knew peace. Despite minor squabbles here and again, it lasted for thousands of years.

Jinnim was raised by a polycule of six parents, and he was the first of many brothers and sisters. He proudly looked after each of them as they came into the world, teaching them how to walk and fly. Though it shamed him to admit it, he had a few favorites — usually the most rowdy and enigmatic of the bunch. The more someone could make him laugh, the more he wanted to be around them.

Life was easy in a small colony of dragons. He married his childhood sweetheart, had kids, and eventually ended up in a polycule of his own. Dragons live a long time, and he aged like fine wine. Life was good... until it wasn't.

The Curse

As the years went by, all manner of magical creatures began to die out and go extinct. For the longest time, no one could figure out why. By the time half of all species were extinct, it became obvious that magic was leaking from the planet frantically like a sieve. They never did find out what caused the mass extinction (though there were several theories that the magic was being used to form a new bubble universe), but it was later determined that some sort of astral event might fix it.

It was the minor deities, the fae, and the dragons that made a final last ditch effort to save life as they knew it. Already, strange new non-magical creatures were coming into existence and evolving. No one knew what to make of them, but everyone knew the fix needed to happen soon.

As they waited for the predetermined meteor to strike the planet, they sought out the magic-eating void. It was crammed inside an inactive volcano, a black hole that sucked magic to it like a magnet. An insurmountable amount of minor deities wiped themselves out existence, expending the last of their magic trying to close the void. Dragons gave up abilities, and fae warped entire dimensions trying to persuade the hole to close. Nothing came close.

By the time the predicted meteor came crashing down to the planet, it was the largest force of magic remaining. Jinnim was one of the few dragons left, and it was his job to use what was left of his power (along with a minor deity) to direct the meteor to the void's location. It slammed with such force into the volcano that it destroyed everything in its path. The collision with the void rocked the planet on its orbit, causing a secondary mass extinction event.

Magic screamed up from the volcano, vomiting into the sky and out into space with every last speck of power. Everyone in the nearby vicinity was cursed to absorb such extreme amounts of power that their lives became immortalized. They later went on to populate the rest of the world with all the remaining mystical creatures. Jinnim was one of them.

Current Day

Nowadays, humans and animals populate the planet. There's only a handful of species remaining from the time when magic ruled the planet. All of them stem from one person who survived the catastrophe and was cursed.

You can often find Jinnim wandering the country in search of his next great love affair. He wants a family, someone to love and be loved by, and that doesn't necessarily mean just romance. When you have a life that doesn't quit, time becomes meaningless, and it's not uncommon for him to live a few decades near a close friend until they pass or fall out of friendship with him.

What Jinnim wants more than anything is to have a few children of his own, fully aware that they and his significant other will pass before him. He's devoted to watching after their children and the consecutive family tree until there's either a bad bunch or it dies out. It wouldn't be the first family he'd had or even the second, but he values each one no differently.
